Just who is 95.5 KLOS 3rd Shift? Truth is, no one really has a clue.
An enigmatic soul who helms his own show on KLOS from 1:00am to 5:00am Tuesday through Friday, he's seldom seen and never heard. What is clear however, is that he's a man possessed of a keen ear for the best in classic rock n' roll as any one of his dedicated listeners would tell you.
Beyond that little else is known.
He just appeared out of nowhere one morning and commandeered the studio, he barricaded the door and went about the business of playing vintage rock. After a while, we all liked what he was doing so much we decided to call off the SWAT Team and let him have at it. He's been a fixture ever since.
As to understanding what makes 95.5 KLOS 3rd Shift tick though, you'd be better served trying to comprehend the words to The Kingsmen's rendition of "Louie Louie." Jim Ladd, whose program directly preceeds 95.5 KLOS 3rd Shift, aptly describes him as "a character shrouded in mystery, like Godot. Only, thankfully, this guy shows up." Few people at the station, or anywhere for that matter, can remember having as much as a word with the man let alone a friendly beer. " Quite frankly," declares Cynthia Fox, KLOS' midday matriarch, "I think we'll see the release of a new album from Guns N' Roses before After Hours ever opens up."
Yet, despite all his reticence, it is undeniable that 95.5 KLOS 3rd Shift has carved out his own niche by creating what is quite simply the best all-night classic rock n' roll show in Southern California. And the fans love him for it. He plays the music and guides them seamlessly into the day.
Much like a Piper.
